Goats, Death'N'Roll and Experimental

-MILKING THE GOATMACHINE's brand new album «Stallzeit» (NoiseArt Rec) is punky, dirty, brutal D.M. Grind. Its pretty cool but I might have liked it better if it wasnt for the growlin vocals. Anyway, its also some different moments of humour throughout this album: Benny Hill, phone-call w/goat-voice, Love is in the air etc. and even a rough version of «Ace Of Spades» as bonus. MILKING THE GOATMACHINE have a serious fixation about goats as they dress like goats (goatmasks), all their 4 full-length albums have goats on the covers and pretty many songs with the word goat in the title (for instance «Goatriders In The Sky»). The band will appear on quite many festivals this year. Also check out their humour channel on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/mtgoatmachine

-The Hungarian spheric D.M./B.M. band BORNHOLM is praised up in the skies nowadays. I think their 2013 album «Inexorable Defiance» (NoiseArt Rec) has a bit too much synth mood, but damn I was surprised to hear their version of BATHORY's «Valhalla» song, thats really a great cover!

-Sweden's WITCHGRAVE's debut album «Witchgrave» was released by High Roller Rec in Feb and the band continue to deliver Satanic 80s Heavy Metal like they did on their great 2010 EP «The Devil's Night». I saw them live w/Swedish ANTICHRIST and NEKROMANTHEON on Revolver in Oslo in September. All the 3 bands made sure this turned out to be a great gig. Thrashers ANTICHRIST doin some Scandinavian gigs in May and they will also be back in Norway. Their new single «Burned Beyond Recognition» will be out on Electric Assault Rec in July.

-For D.M. nostalgy you may be interested to check out «Anthems Of Apostasy», comp released by Vic Rec in Feb. Demo 91 and Demo 92 of SWAZAFIX are both featured on this release. SWAZAFIX was a Death Metal band back in the old days, with Theo (R.I.P.) from ASPHYX.

-Last few days Ive been playin the song «The Ferocious Embrace» from the last HEARSE album «Single Ticket To Paradise» (Vic Rec, 2009). This song has got one of the best Death'N'Roll guitar-riffs Ive heard. Maybe its time for a new HEARSE album again? Recently I found a vhs-tape from the time Johan Was In Norway with HYDR-HYDR. It was fun watch this grindcore period again, 23 years later! Anders Odden (also a member of HYDR-HYDR) now with the Goth band MAGENTA. Check out their «Darkest Dream Part 2» promo-vid where Anders looks like Rasputin!

-Another song Ive played repeatedly now recently is «Lucifer Over London» by CURRENT 93. This is such a great and catchy song from their apocalyptic folk-music period in 1994. Their «Tamlin» EP (1994) has also got this kind of interestin apocalyptic folk-music. CURRENT 93 started out as a much more experimental and kind of industrial band in 1982 and their debut-album «Nature Unveiled» (1984) has some very dark, chantin, spooky, ritualistic horror music which sounds like a gate to another world has been opened. Featured on this album is the song «Ach Golgotha» which (cut from the song) is actually the intro on ROTTING CHRISTs brilliant debut-album «Passage To Arcturo». CURRENT 93s other album from 1984 «Dogs Blood Rising» has also got kind of ritualistic music but its not quite as chaotic. CURRENT 93 have released a long list of albums + EPs with various music-styles they also have some electronic, kind of punk and alternative rock songs. Nowadays the music seems to be more calm with spoken vocals but still variations happenin live.

-After 16 years with no album released DEAD CAN DANCE was back with new album «Anastasis» last year. This is very good, moodfilled and comfortable music in the vein of what they used to do before («How Fortunate The Man With None» was always my fave). The 2nd DEAD CAN DANCE live-album «In Concert» to be released 22 April by Play It Again Sam Recordings.

-The last week Ive been listenin to various songs and albums with CURRENT 93. SWANS, from the early 80s typical industrial percussion music to the somewhat brutal/melodious moodfilled nice percussion + guitar album «The Great Annihilator» (1995) and the gloomy & sad «Soundtracks For The Blind» (1996). The monoton industroritual experimental SUNN O))) and some more alternative, ambient and experimental bands. Some of the weirdest must be PSYCHIC TVs «Sugarmorphoses» (1994) album which have got a whole lot of unusual sounds that might just as well put you in a trance. This album also incl the song «Rites Of Reversal» with the sounds of some kind of a murmur mad dog goin on in more than 20 mins! And the most insane percussion song «Swamp Rat» by NURSE WITH WOUND with crazy cling-clang guitar and eventually uncontrollable laughter.

-New artwork for LUCIFERICONs «The Occult Waters» album is finalized and to be released by Blood Harvest Rec. The label will also release the CADAVERIC FUMES Grindeath demo «Macabre Exaltation» which is currently bein re-mastered.

-You've probably seen the genius mad drummer Steve Moore on youtube several times, but I place the link here anyway. The most unique and motional drum-playin-style in the whole world! I wonder, do one need a piece of acid to be able to play like this or what is the answer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItZyaOlrb7E
